"Wild Bill" Retires from Park Service
Law Enforcement Ranger Bill Weber retired from the National Park Service Saturday, January 14th. For the last 25 years, Bill was as much of a part of Skinner's Falls as Fortress or Rhode's Rock and was always quick to lend a hand. Ranger Weber had words of praise for the National Canoe Safety Patrol, "Without the safety patrol, my job would have been much tougher, the patrol took care of the river and over the years have saved countless lives." Bill has been an icon on the Upper Delaware River and the river will never be the same. Ranger Weber lives in Beach Lake and plans to volunteer as part of the dive team he was very active with during his career. NCSP members Mark Szupillo, Pete Van Slyke, Gene Berliner, Troy Bystrom, and Ken Bailey attended his retirement event and presented him with a NCSP jacket, Poly T-Shirt, Cap and paddle to wish him well in his retirement. He may be officially retired but we have not seen the last of "Wild Bill" on the Upper Delaware!
NCSP Members Save Lives
During the 2012 paddling season several lives were saved by NCSP members. The most dramatic save involved a boy scout whose foot became entrapped between two rocks underwater. The boy was submerged and due to quick action by fellow boy scouts and NCSP members on the scene, the scout was successfully rescued.
