Swiftwater Recue Training

Gaining ACA Certification as an SWR Instructor (Step 1 of 2)

Crash & Mike trained with Charlie Walbridge for 5 days on the Yock. They earned certification as Level IV ACA SWR Instructors...with well deserved congratulations! ACA requires that they gain teaching experience and then demonstrate their skills under the eye of a master trainer to become ITs.

Likewise for NCSP teachers to achieve ACA SWR Instructor status, one must first take the course and then later teach that same course material under the eye of Mike or Crash, once they have achieved IT certification. This first step achieves a shared skill set among all our faculty. Also this offering, in October, will have the latest techniques from Charlie and will stress 'the teaching of SWR skills' as a prelude to achieving Instructor certification.

This course is being offered in October to give ideas, tools and added skills to our NCSP faculty as they plan for a very busy training season in 2010. On the table is April NCSP training weekend, training for NPS interns, for liveries and for camp waterfront staffs. A joint training exercise is envisioned with NPS and local rescue squads. We urge all NCSP trainers to take ONE of the two course offerings in October. These are duplicate courses. Please support Bill and his training staff with your participation.

Oct 3 & 4 - Crash will lead the 2 day ACA SWR course

Oct 10 & 11 - Mike will lead the 2 day ACA SWR course

All will meet at Luke's Landing at 9 am each day. Expecting permission to camp from Kittatinny.
